Default Looking for a Sewing Machine with certain attachment?

So I'm looking to get a new sewing machine after the new year and I want to get one that has a Serger Attachment with it. I have seen Singer Sewing Machines on HSN that have the attachment so you don't have to get a Serger Sewing Machine. I love a sewing machine with lots of stitches but the main ones are blanket and serger stitch. So if anyone has a sewing machine that they could recommend that would great. My budget is around $300-500 dollars I would like it to be a Singer or Brothers sewing machine.

This attachment does not have to come with the machine. You just need to have a machine with the correct type of shank (low shank) and a centered needle.

Here is a link to the attachment on Amazon ($10):
http://www.amazon.com/Side-Cutter-Se.../dp/B001HFBBA0

Be sure to read all of the information on Amazon, including questions asked and answered:

and user reviews:

Edit: I would not want a Singer sewing machine. This is a company that has had a bad rep for the last 20 years or so. The last thing you want in a sewing machine that does decorative stitches is a machine that does not hold its tension well! Brother machines currently have a much better reputation than Singer machines.

Edit 2: The above attachment is not the only one available. Here are links to others sold on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/SINGER-Attachm...dp/B00G6TW7ZK/

Also, I just want to point out that this attachment does not do many things that a serger can do. For example, you can still easily stretch knit fabric edges. A serger will have "differential feed" which moves the knit fabric without stretching it -- something a sewing machine cannot do.

Looks like the side cutter attachment is available separately. Why not find a machine you like, then add the attachment?

I purchased a Brother as an extra machine when my Babylock embroidery machine is 'busy'. It comes with several feet, and I also ordered the side cutter for overcasting (serging). Works amazing! Has an easy threader, a built in scissor for cutting threads, and a more 'open' throat instead of rounded, for the price range of these machines. The machine also has several stitches that are 'serging' stitches included, and the overcast foot is included. Very easy to learn and use. I too would never get another Singer-my opinion.

NanaC, none of your links worked. When you cut an Amazon url, you can cut back to right before /ref but no further. I will try to add links here that work:

Both of my Brother machines came with the side cutter attachment but I've never used it...I have sergers.

I'm glad they do offer this attachment but I have never had a serger and don't know what kind to even buy.

these links worked. wow, I had no idea there was such and attachment for a regular machine, I wonder if it works as well as a serger. I could not be without my serger because I sew clothes for children besides quilting.
