Margaret,
I think the markers you bought are Crayola Washable markers, not Ultra Clean. Crayola's website says they don't make Ultra Clean markers with the super tips (maybe in the future??? we can hope!).

I've found that the washable markers do not come out as consistently as the Ultra Clean markers so you maybe want to always test those markers since several ladies in my quilt guild have had occasional (but rare) difficulties with the Washable markers not coming out.

For anyone interested, here are what the package of the Ultra Clean fine-tip markers looks like:

If you mark an entire quilt top & take a month or so to hand quilt it, will the markers still wash out?

I have the ultra clean Crayola washable markers for a while now. I use what ever color is handy. I have ironed it, washed it, and dried it in the dryer as normal. All the marks have come out. I am very happy with this product.

I was a little leary of it myself, but after testing, have felt very comfortable using it to mark my quilt blocks.
I have the fine tip.

There is a purple one that I like. The lines disappear after a couple of hours. I can't remember what the brand is. This is a quilting marker, not crayola.

Glad to hear it washed out after a long time frame, wonder how they would do for a quilt that stays in the frame for 2 years? That is how long it took me to quilt my last one...I don't think I will try that experiment, lol!!!

I have used the regular washable markers and have not had a problem as long as I don't iron before I wash out the marks. I am going to try the ultra clean -- thanks for the tip.

Several sources say you need to thorough soak (but don't use detergent) to permanently remove the purple or blue markers because when you just mist them it disappears but not from the bat.
