Another post that discussed thread made me think. I don't pay enough attention to thread, and I know I should (and I vow to from now on!).

Made me wonder. When I'm piecing and I run out of a spool, I'll grab another spool of the same color without regard to the manufacturer. I'll choose with only color and weight as my guide. So I may start a quilt with white 50wt Gutterman and finish piecing in white 50wt C&C.

I do pay enough attention to not make any changes in thread when quilting, just piecing.

Do any of you - especially those of you not "married" to a certain brand - change manufacturers mid-product when you piece?

I do what I have to do to get the quilt done. I live in a semi remote area and don't run to town for a spool of thread:)

I, like you, have always just used the same weight and a like color when I needed to refill the bobbin. I have never worried about the mfg until I joined this board and found out that I should always use the same.

I only purchase one brand, Aurifil, and I only buy basic neutrals for my piecing. I use a lot of cream, gray, navy or black. I always buy several so I never run out.

I piece with whatever. I've never bought "nice" thread. I'm considering it for quilting to see if it suddenly makes me better at it.

I only care what goes in the bobbin on my vintage machine. it doesn't hold much, so I want a thin thread. Guterman is fine for me. Other than that, I am trying to use up a few of my stash. 'Course, I'll wish I hadn't when I need to sew on some apparel and can't match it. Both machines will sew well with C&C, Guterman or Connecting Threads, so I don'r worry.

I don't so much on piecing, but DO on quilting.

Funny you should ask today about thread. I live about 20 miles from the nearest Hancocks. Yesterday, I needed ONE spool of navy cotton thread to bind my DD queen size hand quilted quilt. Went to H., everything on sale, couldn't use my 40% coupon on one spool of thread, so I spent $100 on othersale items. Would have been better off waiting untilthe thread went off sale! LOL

I'm not particular. If it works for the machine, it works for me.
