Ditto! Yellow Brick Road is my quilt of choice when I need one in a hurry.

I am so glad you asked the question, Yarn or Fabric. I received great information, ideas & inspiration. Is your sister or niece going on a honeymoon. They won't need the quilt until they get back. That gives you a little more breathing room!

My mother is making quilts to give to her grandchildren as they get married. She said the Disappearing 9 Patch is by far the fastest she's made so far. Eleanor Burns' Quick Trips Quilts also look like a quick quilt with easy piecing (no seams to match). Here's a link to her video.

Default quick and impressive quilt...

I have 2 suggestions: The 10 minute block fits both descriptions. I saw a pattern in a quilt book just Mon. Eve.,that also fits that description: It is
Nine-Patch Strippy," from the "101 Fabulous Rotary Cut quilts," by Judy Hopkins and Nancy J. Martin. It is 18 9-patches, set in rows of 6. Then, there are 4 borders of floral border strips, in co-ordinating colors.
It is rated 3-spools, which is the rating of difficulty.
I like to choose easy-looking patterns as I don't quilt all day and all night, as do some of my friends. This gives me the satisfaction of having a nice-looking quilt in a reasonable amount of time.
If you want to know more, let me know and I will respond in a pm.
Mariah.

Here's a link, to the Warm Wishes pattern. You can make it larger or smaller, by just adding or subtracting rows (sets of two, to keep pattern).

Crib Size or Lap Size

I think it's a beautiful quilt and I'd like to try it sometime.

I started a Hunter's Star this afternoon, using Deb Tucker's ruler, and the blocks are already about half done. I've been able to finish the diamonds and trapezoids, the harder part. Tomorrow I can add the triangles and trip it up. I'm hoping to have the quilt top done by this weekend.
