when its someone close to me and i'm not involved in something, I do things for the cost of fabric, how ever, recently our beloved mechanic asked me to do a quilt for his wife who we adore, i was planning on doing one for her , but we traded auto repair for the quilt, bartering is wonderful, so I got 200 on instalation of auto car starting
150 for fabric i'm doing a queen size quilt to kingsize he will pay for the quilting backing and batting when i get to that point.

If you browse etsy.com, the lap size quilts range from $35 to $150. It will depend greatly on the technique used, hand-quilted vs machine vs tied. Pieced vs whole cloth vs rotary cut stripes etc.

Materials at JoAnn's prices are at least $25 (3-4 yards @ $3 + $10 batting + thread) and they can go up from there.

Hope that this helps.

I charge $300. for a lap 50x70 LQS materials, warm & white batting and longarm quilting. That would give them a nice pattern.

I charge...."Buy the fabric and I'll make it."

I quilt because I love doing it.
Unlike major league athletes that SAY they play for the love of the game and then refuse to sign a contract UHHH HMMMMM Albert Pujols (insert your own least favorite greedy player name here) I really do honestly love quilting and I will do it for free no matter ESPECIALLY if someone else is buying the fabric and batting!

I know for someone else to quilt it - the quilting alone can range from a penny and a half per square inch to 3 1/2 cents a square inch depending on how complicated the quilting is.

The material would be the actual cost and whatever you think is fair for your labor. If it's your design and colors you choose, I feel more generous, because I'm practicing something I want to do. If it's completely dictated to me... I would want a higher labor rate.

Hope that helps...

If it were my niece and my sister that was getting the quilt, I would not be charging anything to make the quilt. I also have a large stash of fabric so my niece would be "shopping" for fabric at my house. She'd pick the pattern (with a few suggestions) and the colours and I'd stitch. I know not every family operates this way and perhaps you are not in a position to do this for your niece and sister. I don't charge family and my niece will "pay" me back some time by keeping my dog when we are away.
