? quilt for curtains

? quilt for curtains
wanting to make curtains for bedroom- 2 single windows-has anyone done this would you send pictures.... i want it to cover window to block out light-- how much wider than window and how would you hang them ? tabs or sleeve ?

i made drapes for our bedroom when we first moved into our house- i was working a night-shift and needed to sleep during the day- there are 4 large windows in our bedroom- so i pieced tops (they are about 4" wider than each window (on each side) and hang down below the ledge
then i backed them with denim i did not use batting- i pillowcase style put them together then just top stitched around- i did add a 4" sleeve to the top of each to run the drapery rod through.
they keep the room dark when closed- and have held up well- i've wanted to replace them a couple times- but my hubby really likes them so they stay.
i'm working on a cathedral window project (white squares- batik windows) that i plan to make into a roman shade for my sewing room (mainly because i just can not imagine making this bed sized)
i've seen quilted drapes/curtains with tabs to hang them too- large (2" wide) tabs that fold over and have buttons on them.
just measure your window- decide how much longer you want them- split the width in half (if you want 2 curtains you can open) and add a few extra inches to each side so when you close them there are not any gaps...easy fun project- and the originality of drapes no one else will ever have

I haven't made curtains but am planning to do a shower curtain. I hung my quilt that I was working on on my shower rod and loved it. LOL
But my reason for answering is that I have a site somewhere that you take a disected mini blind and turn it into a roman shade. It was such a neat idea. You use some of the slats to hook it to and use the up/down strings. glenda

No reason why you can't!
There is a special batting that you can get that is meant for windows, and works as an insulation, plus to block out light.
Keep in mind that these will likely be heavier than the normal drapes ... and make sure your rod is heavy enough as well as how it is fastened to the wall.
