I have mine sorted by PP, FQ, and then unfortunatley, every thing else just sort of here and there. Really need to work on that part of my "orginization"

I like to see them grouped by technique, but with a way to search by author or title. Which is asking a ton, I know, but I've been lost in bookstores before trying to find what I need.

I dont buy many books and the ones I do are usually Eleanor Burns so keep all hers togather.
I keep all the precut quilt books togather also.
Magazines since 2007 I have gone thru and listed ones I like on large file cards, one line only discriptions.
This way I have found out which mags I find the best patterns in and have stopped ordering any others. I am down to 3 subscriptions now.
Now when I need say a baby quilt I just look at my cards to find which mag its in.

I have all of Eleanor Burns books together as well as Fons & Porter...the rest are arranged by what is in them primarily.......log cabin, scrappy, fans or dresden, baby, flannel, animal, and so forth. It seems to work. Each section is identified with an identifying tab, oh they are set on shelves in alpha order. Now the ones that are in baskets laying here and there are not really catagorized yet....have run out of shelves....must buy a new shelf unit......or need to get rid of some of those books...I sometimes feel like a library......I think that will be my new year's resolution.....clear out my sewing cave to a more organized, less clutter place..it is getting a bit out of hand...

I have mine sorted by size to be the most aesthetically pleasing...

I rescued an old bookcase with doors from my husband's workshop (he was using it to store small things), and it is now filled with quilt books arranged according to technique. I used a label maker to make labels to identify the techniques. Works great!

Happy quilt mom has the same system I use - alpha by author with a spread sheet that has author, title, "category" which is where I put what the essentials are such as applique, foundation piecing, etc.

If I had more shelf room think I would put all of one technique together but alas, space is at a premium in my studio.

Some of mine are sorted by subject, some by author, some by technique and the rest are just on the shelf willy nilly. Some day I'm going to alphabetize the willy nillies by author or title. I keep small notebooks in my purse with the titles willy nilly but separated by first letter of the title. I recently got rid of a whole lot of books so my lists have to be redone. I really want to put them on a spread sheet.
