classes are a great way to learn, and you'll make new friends who are probably also quiet and shy.

Take a class at your local quilt shop or sewing machine dealer. You will learn a lot and make some new friends. It is a win, win situation. Quilters are usually good, good people.

I watch shows, video's on line and take a few on-line classes.

Go for it. I took lessons last year to learn about quilting and I had never sewn before. I am a learner that needs confirmation after I do something to ensure I did it correctly. You can imagine how my teacher felt since most of the other students were more experienced with sewing machines than me. It was a good experience and I continue to take classes online as well as the local quilt stores. It is always great to learn and especially from those with experience as they have great tips.
Much like the members of this board. Remember that everyone who takes classes is more interested in learning than socializing or least that is what I have found so far. Wishing you the best in your classes!

I have never taken a quilting class, best self taught. I read lots and just do it. Just works for me.

For sure take a class just find one that is at a beginner level you will be shocked at how much you can learn! I do classes of a lot of small projects for new quilters. Mostly small items wallhangings, BOM with a new tecnique each month, placemats etc. This way it isn't too stressful and is fun and a great way to make new quilting friends. Quilters generally love to share as shown on this board.

Taking a class will introduce you to newbie quilters who are just like you and you will develop the friendships you have with those on this Quilting Board. I always seemed to be the last to finish the step we were working on and the class couldn't go on until I caught up, but everyone enjoyed helping me or visiting with each other. You'll get the best of both worlds.
