Quilt pattern recommendation for Grandpa's old plaid shirts?
My Dad was going through some things the other night and came across my Grandfather's old plaid shirts, both flannel and shirting weight. Any ideas for a masculine-type quilt pattern that I could use them for. I think my Dad would love them in a quilt.
Thanks!

There was a discussion about this very thing here on the board not long ago. Try looking up "plaid shirts". I think I suggested the ones below, Also look on the Quiltville website because Bonnie makes LOTS of her quilts from homespuns & plaids & stripes.

the one in my avatar I did using men's shirts. I used a plain center for a signature square, but you could use a shirt square instead (either same as the corner squares or a 4th block). I drafted the block myself, but I'm sure someone somewhere has written a pattern for the block :-). I made a 9" puss in corner and then used that as the center in a 15" puss in corner block. I quilted the individual blocks and then put them together using sashing - so your sashing size could easily vary if you don't do it QAYG. Here's a link to my original post about it: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t131269.html.

I just made a 'Twister Tool' with plaids to see how it would come out. I didn't want to 'waste' any fabric if the plaids looked odd. My BF lost her hubby and wants me to make her a quilt and that was what he mostly wore. I really like how it looks, and will probably use that.DH liked the little top so much he wants me to make it bigger for our king bed.

I'm working with a friend's dad's shirts and using the turning 20 pattern. It's terribly busy, but what the heck!
