I like to design my own but if I find a great pattern, it goes into my "idea" file. Great source for inspiration later.

I usually have a pattern. Since I got EQ I have been creating some of my own though.

Every quilt I have made over the years has been designed by me! I have this obsessive desire to create, either with fabric or oil paints. Now, I'm trying to get serious experience so I'm working on a D9P. For the first time, it does matter if I cut or stitch 1/8" off! Please tell me that discipline is good! Hopefully I'll get better soon. The D9P and D4P are awesome patterns because they are incredibly versatile.

I do...sort of?...follow a pattern. I've never followed a pattern to the letter, but I use the pattern or the general idea of it and bend it to suit my needs or desires for the quilt.

You are all so talented! I have to follow a pattern...and usually have to get some advice/help to pick my fabrics. I think those of you who can make up your own patterns are very gifted. And very lucky too!

I started quilting making my own designs....after reading and researching for years..all the patterns I ever came up with were patterns already done by someone throughout history or at least a variation of it...but I do love following patterns from others..it's like a proven science

I am starting to design more and more on my own. If I use a pattern its usually just for reference. I don't think I've ever been able to follow a pattern.

Lately I have enjoyed making quilts from a specific block and just end of figuring out how many will look good and how big it needs to be. Patterns are fun too though.

The only pattern I have followed so far is the instructions for my OBW. I will take a block from one place, or change it up, add another, etc.. until I like what I get.
I use EQ a lot for the designing :D:D:D
