My favorite is the first combination, but what if you made the triangles at the top, bottom and sides of the star a deep blue? It might add some depth to the stars. Love what eveyone is doing to help. And thank you for the pattern link. Now I have EVEN MORE to try!!!

Here is a version of this block. It's still Carol Doak's pattern, but I found the one in her book to be easier to follow.
