The quilt is very pretty. The directions for adding borders was also very well done, Prism.

A lady in our guild says "if you can't see it while riding by on a horse at a trot, don't worry about it!" Similar to the Rule of 65!

I usually have to "ease" a bit when doing borders, but measuring across the middle does help square them up. We hand quilt on wooden boards set on "horses" so when they are not square, it makes for a tough time getting them in the frame and the ladies say plenty of no-nos!

wow, these are great instructions. I will use them next time, also. The feed dog trick works, too...putting the longest side on the bottom.

Measuring through the middle of the quilt for the borders is absolutely crucial!!! in my opinion.

Also, once the pins are in (I would divide into 8ths or 16th on a large quilt), you can usually stretch the fabric of the border between pins as you sew until the fullness is worked in.

Likewise, on the short side, you can stretch the top to fit the border between pins.

When I first joined the local quilt guild a very sweet lady told me - when I was bemoaning something I thought wasn't right - "If you can't see it from the back of a galloping horse, it's not a mistake!" Similar to the 65mph rule.

Always quilting

You should always measure across the middle of your quilt to get the length of your borders. Then if you need to ease a little to make it square, you can. Do this both vertically and horizontly.
