This is my first New post since the change in format wich I love by the way..I love learning new software and programs ..Good job everyone!!! I have a debate going in my head...
I have a pattern for floor cushions which are 6 in squares.. 16 all together..4 in a row..2 diff..colors,print laying out in a checker board style...So nice and cute.. Instructions call for foam. I will have to buy that!! I have plenty of poly stuffing..This is a square with sides and corners and button tuffing..Will the poly make the square out of shape..You know not hold up,just mash down...It is 22" by 22" by 4" inches ..Looking for something cheap and fast for Christmas..Health problems with hubby..Had a stroke..Life just gets in the way of what you want to do sometimes. Pattern is easy and would be quick..need to know abt. the poly... I know there is an ans. out there.. This board has never felled me yet on help.. Bill'sBonBon

I think the poly will loose it's shape. If cost is the issue, maybe you could use a thinner piece of foam and the poly on the top for softer cushion. Maybe you could find some foam to repurpose.

I do slipcovers and the proper way to do it is to get a piece of foam and wrap it with the poly one or two rounds, square the corners but cut the excess off. Using a white threaded needle, use large stitches and sew the poly closed at the side and all the corners. You could stop here, or you could cover the poly with a muslin or an old sheet, and again sew the corners and sides shut. This way the top fabric will not "walk" and go down over the edge. I would like to see you put
some cording in but that is up to you. You could put a zipper on one side so you could remove the cover to wash it. If you have any questions, just pm me. Love to see the outcome.

One thing I forgot to mention - when you are ready to put the finished cover on, cut a plastic bag open at the sides and flip it open. Slip over the cushion and then put your cover on. Then reach in and pull out the plastic. Makes it really easy that way.

Look for foam somewhere other than JoAnns. Look for a foam retail shop or an upholstery shop.

Make an envelope out of batting, turning the seams to the inside. Fill it with the polyfiberfil. The poly won't move. Handstitch the opening closed after filling.

That is really good advice. Will have to make note of your ideas for the next time I have a project like this. Did just price foam at Joann's - even at 50% last week- it was an outrageous price. The clerk told me it's because it's made from petroleum.

Why not try Goodwill or some store like that and see if they have any chair cushions that you can reuse.

Thank you ragamuffin..i am going to follow your instructions if I can find the foam..pattern does not call for cording or a zipper but maybe I will do one that way just to see if I can do it...LOL!!!
