I have been thinking I should join the fw world and get myself a machine I could carry easily to classes. Not every LQS I go to has a ramp and lugging the carrier up stairs is getting very old. I have found one locally for $185. There is no case which i priced out some on ebay. The machine works fine, scrollwork is in good shape, sews well..I have seen demo. and so I think I should just take the plunge and get it. The price is a lot less than ebay auctions from reputable sellers....any opinions out there?

Make sure you do a test run on it first. Sews well? When last serviced? Cords and electrical ok?
I'd say go for it. You can get a new case.
I love mine. It's a '47 with a scroll face plate, and she's pretty! :)

I'd do it...after I made sure that it has the bobbin case. :)

Sounds like an excellent price to me if it runs well, the finish is good and the go.d is in decent shape. The prices on eBay have risen for only fair machines. Go for it!

Make sure you sit down and actually sew the type of items you will be sewing on it. If it works well I would buy it. I love my fw and use it to piece blocks all the time.
Note: just remember if you are going to be taking classes that require zigzag or fmq this is not the machine for those times.

Good price. You may want to look for a wheeled sewing machine trolley/case for it...much easier to move around.
