Quilting a Mariner's Compass Quilt
I am very near to completing a King/Queen Mariner's Compass quilt. The center will have a 24" Compass with a appliqued circle in the center of this block. The other blocks 18--12 inch Mariner's compass blocks are on the outer portion of the quilt. The 12 inch blocks have all the points coming together and not covered like the large one is. It is made from Stonehenge fabrics in the Summer Cottage collection. Hope this can bring a image to your mind. Anyway, how would you suggest it be quilted? I will probably send it out to be quilted --but I might do it myself. Either way I need some suggestions how to quilt. Thanks for one and all who reply. Sue

I made a Mariner's compass some years back that sounds similar to yours. I outlined quilted each point that I wanted to recede so the next point would stand out, and echo quilted (1/2 inch) the circle around the compass. I have half square triangle sashing and I outlined the lighter triangle. In the border, I used a clam shell pattern with the compass replicated in the corner stones. I hand quilted mine.
