I love my Gingher 4.5 inch thread nippers. I used several different types of snips until I found these on sale. Now I have couple and won't use cheaper ones - the Ginghers last a very long time and can be sharpened.

I agree on the Flynn frame. I bought it after I saw him demonstrating it at a big quilt show (remember those?) I put a baby quilt on it as a learning exercise. The baby is now 11 (!) and I just dismantled the thing and am going to try selling it on ebay.

I really tried on it, but, even with my Bernina stitch regulator, I could barely do a straight line, let alone anything interesting. I assume they work great for some people, but unfortunately not for me.

I washed an old, plastic spice container with a lid that has smaller holes - filled it with chalk powder and rubber banded a piece of cotton outside the lid. It works pretty well as a pouncer...as long as I don't knock it over by accident.

Marking pencils. I prefer to "wing it" rather than taking the extra time to mark.

1.Tool for sewing deep curves like drunkard's path. What a waste.
2. Binder tool. I just mark the two ends. Saw process on line.
3. 6x24 ruler. I just make sure fabric is folded twice with no bumps. Too hard to stretch across the cutting table.
4 Tape measure that doesn't retract. I have to roll it up and put it back in it's container.
5. Pins that are the wrong metal and don't work with my magnetic pin grabber.
6. Rulers that are not the half inch. 6 rather than 6 1/2

I don’t have any rulers that are to the half inch, but I think that’s because for the longest time that is all they sold. How brilliant of someone to realize that by adding a half inch the ruler would be that much more useable. But I’m too cheap to replace otherwise perfectly good rulers just to get that extra benefit.

Thank you all for the reminders of things I've thrown out over the years. It's a comfort to know I'm not alone. Although I miss quilt shows, there are too many temptations there for things I don't use. Among the worst and most expensive: longarm plastic templates/rulers. The people who demonstrate them have been practicing for years and are just too good. The thing I resented most was an expensive thimble, thick and heavy and what a waste.
