My very first quilt was done with what I had in my sewing box, which happened to be a mixture of cotton and polyester ( I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on quilting thread, just in case I didn't like quilting)and blocks my husband's grandmother had cut from goodwill finds..that was roughly 8 years ago...my sister, who I gave the quilt , says it's in great shape although some of the color has faded abit...that tells me she uses the quilt and that makes me happy!!!

I love the fish fabric and have used it in the past. Everyone likes it. It will be just lovely for the little one. It will get washed A LOT. What a thoughtful gift.

Put a one or two year warranty on it an fix whatever needs fixing. I have repaired quilts made by my mother. It lengthened their lives by years and years.

Great quilt! I think bright colors are great for babies well... and everyone else , I've always used a cotton poly mix - mostly coats n clark as that's what I had on hand and what was passed down from my Grandma (along with her 1968 workhorse of a machine) I was actually told by a sew shop that you should match the thread to the fabric, and since I use cotton poly mix's and other blended fabrics, it makes sense. I've made many baby quilts that get used a LOT and washed as much. Several are 7+ yrs old and still holding up great
