I am a beginner quilter and am looking to purchase a compact, lightweight quilting/sewing machine. It has to be small because I live in a studio appartment. Does anyone have a suggestion on what brand model I should look into? Thanks!

go to your local quilt shop, yes, the quilt shop. Not Walmart or any other place. you need to ask questions from someone who knows about machines. You also need a person who will stand by your machine and fix, repair or answer any questions you have about it. The first machine that comes to mind is Janome. They have many models ranging from $300. up to $7000. Yes. thats right. I did not make a typo error. So good luck in your search. Marge

Thanks, Marge. I went to the quilt shop today. They also recommend several models of Janome. I think that's where I'm leaning... The Janome authorized dealer is nearby, but he charges an arm and a leg for his machines. Almost double what I'm seeing online.
