I just bought a Brother SQ 9000 and want to use the "hand-look quilting stitch" but the bobbin thread isn't coming up looks like the tension is too tight. All that I have showing is a small stitch, more like a dot. I am using a 90 needle, sulky transparent thread, and Gutterman thread in the bobbin, and using the J foot. I made sure the sulky thread is coming off the right direction and doubled checked the bobbin, all are correct. I cleaned out the bobbin area of lint. I have tried adjusting the thread tension up to 8 but nothing seems to help. I contacted Brother but they just said to check the bobbin and put a new needle in which I did and it didn't help. I really like this machine but got it so I could quilt on small pieces. Can anyone help me? Thx

I have that stitch on my ULT. I increase the length to 3.5 but I don't mess with the tension. I've used that on several quilts but don't recall having that problem. I'll be sewing tomorrow and will see if I can find anything else that might help you.

I have the Brother SQ 9000 but I haven't even used the quilting stitch yet. I have had some problems with tangling and nesting, but I gave the machine a good cleaning and oiling and it's performance has improved.

I will try the quilting stitch tomorrow and see what I come up with.

Ok I doulbe checked. The default setting on my ULT is:stitch length 2.5, tension is 4.2. I do a test stitch first.
I will increase the length to 3.5 on some pieces just because i like the way it looks.

lildeb- if you scroll to page two(i think) it is the hand quilt stitch on the ULT looks like -=-=-=. stitch 1-31

I also have the Brother SQ 9000. Just bought it about a month ago. I haven't used that stitch but have tried many others. I haven't had any trouble with mine. So sorry you are having trouble. Best of luck.

I have been trying to figure out how to respond to the suggestions, hopefully I am doing it right. I tried the stitch lenght at 3.5 and the upper tension at 7 and it worked well on my sample piece. However, when I tried it on the actual quilt it didn't work. The batting was the same but the fabric different, heavier cotton. Will try cleaning it again, new needle and see if that helps. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and or good wishes. I will keep working at this and hopefully get it to work.

Is the heavier fabric in the quilt? That may be the key to your problem. you may need a different size needle to for the heavier fabric. Hope you get it figured out, I know how frustrating it can be.
