Default Have you seen this pinwheel pattern?

I saw this baby or young child's quilt in an Amish quilt shop just recently and loved the pinwheels freely standing on the quilt allowing a young child to "finger" the pinwheel fabric while going to sleep. I have never seen a pattern like this before....have you? Does anyone have a website or pattern information to pass on? Thank you.

That is different from the normal 3D pinwheel, isn't it? I havent seen one like that before and it is very pretty. My only concern would be that those wings should be really well sewn in. Otherwise it could be a choking hazard.

do a search on 3d pinwheel quilt patterns. also you can create this effect yourself with folding fabric into triangles and just attaching at the seam leaving the triangles free. it would be like creating a pocket flap without tacking it down. experiment with a block or two and see how it comes out. i would consider using terry cloth or minky for a baby quilt so that the edges are soft. hope this helps.

here are a few links.

I love the idea of using minke or terry cloth for the pinwheels! A baby seems to just love soft fabrics to hang on to.

I made a quilt just like this. I found the pattern in a magazine and it was for a minature quilt. I just adapted it to 5 inch squares and made prairie points for the pinwheels.
