There was a thread yesterday on even feed feet that I was going to respond to but can't find it. I'll add my 2 cents here.

I have a Bernina sewing machine that came with an even feed foot. The manual says "Reverse feed stitches. The maximum stitch length setting for these stitches is 3."

So it seems that it depends on your brand of even feed foot whether or not you can use the reverse.
