Are titanium blades worth the extra cost?

Another question I have about blades: J Hittle sells "generic" blades for a darn good price. Are they the same, or close enough to justify the low price? I have Fiskars cutters and use Olfa blades, if it matters

I don't notice any difference between the generic and name brands. I haven't tried the titanium though :D:D:D

here's a comment from a company that sells only rotary blades about using generics and the difference between generics and Olfa blades.

Once I used paper as templates and cut some of the paper with my rotary cutters and it really dulled my blade. It was a new blade too.
I have always heard that paper and hair dull blades more than anything.
Now I use plastic templates...more accurate, too.

I got this info from my quilt guild this month. I haven't tried it yet.
www.lpsharp.com will exchange generic as well as Olfa blades. They used to sharpen your blades but now they exchange for new blades. You can also buy new Olfa blades from them at a very good price according to their web site.

The minimum quantity is 5 blades so my guild is going to pool their blades on an order.

One suggestion for lengthening the life of a blade it to simply take it off, turn it around and put a drop of oil on it - given by Mark Lipinski on an old Simply Quilts show.

I bought a rotary blade sharpener on sale at Hancocks. Haven't tried it yet but for the price of blades I thought I would give it a try. Has anyone else used one to sharpen their blades?
