I really, really wish my mother would come to her senses like you and get a "friend" to help control her shopping. Not only is she a shopping addict, she's a gambler:< I spend a lot of time worrying about her future.

For me, I don't have a huge stash. I've got a 6 drawer dresser and a wall of fat quarters. That's a lot for some people and not so much for others:> I am also in the mode of finishing up UFO's etc. before I allow myself to buy more. Although I've not put a restriction on thread. You can never have enough thread;>

Stashbusters devotes itself to this topic and encourages and supports members to use up what they have. There are over 5000 members so you are not alone with your fabric difficulties. Quilters naturally love fabric, colour and texture, so it is easy to understand our addiction. Check out this website for others struggling not to buy more. I, too, have had to STOP! I keep acquiring and not using it - even tho I've got great intentions. After watching an episode of Horders, I decided I didn't want to be like them, but I've got a good start on it. So I refuse to even go near a fabric store of any kind -- no will power.

However, when someone mentioned the Alden, KS shop it did cause me a moments pause. I'll be a reunions at Chase and Raymond, KS over Memorial weekend, and that's a wonderful place to stop! But since by DH will be with me, I'll probably resist.

I've also been clearing my mother's house, and it could be considered a fabric store, so it's hard, hard, hard to keep resisting.

I did have one lady who inherited her mother's stash come to me and want me to weave up some rugs out of the stash. I convinced her to put some of the larger, lovely pieces, in a sale and sell them to other quilters.

I wove and wove. We did a 9 x 12 and two 8 x 10's and a bunch of little ones. Finally all 5 tubs were empty.

My friend and I usually shop together. When we are trying not to buy something we remind each other to keep our hands in our pockets! Somehow, if you touch it, it always comes home with you!=)

Congrats! Some times accountability is the answer. My BFF and I are holding each other accountable for finishing projects. When we sew together we get things done and in between we check on each other so we dont just slack off.

I look at those tubs and tubs of fabric in the pictures and think...look at all that money wasted they are never going to finish all of that.

When I go shopping, I go with a list and CASH. Lock your purse in the trunk of the car. Then if you really really really want it, you have to walk out to the car, dig out your purse, get the cash and come back in.

If these are your true feelings, then I say Congratulations to You! I myself have a large stash and it hit me recently that if I kept purchasing just because, I may never use this stash. I'm talking patterns & fabric, but mostly fabric. So this year I put myself on a strict purchasing diet. And you know? It has not been bad at all. I have gone online & filled carts but when it came time to make that final purchase & push that final button, I had to ask myself, "Where are you going to put this?" That alone kept me from going another step further. My shelves are literally crammed full in my sewing/quilting room! There is not room for 1 more yard. So until I get some of it used.. it is NO BUYING FOR ME! And I am fine with that. For now. I must use up a lot by the time for the Houston Show this Fall though. LOL I Shop & Shop there every year. LOL So good luck and stay disciplined.
