My 1967 Singer touch and sew has a presser foot that is almost exactly 1/4 inch at the edge of it. It works for either side of the foot so I consider myself lucky to have it and not have to adjust anything. It was probably just coincidental that it was made that way because 1967 is before quilting became popular.

Gerl! that is NOT cheating. that's just plain smart! why spend fabric $$$ on something you don't need? :P
i don't think anyone has implied that everyone must have and use a quarter-inch foot. they're just sharing their success stories with those who are thinking of getting one for themselves.

except for the brother foot i mentioned earlier, i have been totally unimpressed and underwhelmed by every quarter-inch foot i've tried. (luckily, they were all included with my machines. i'd have been pretty irritated if i'd bought them for extra cash. )

so many people enjoy using them, i've decided that my own disappointment with them must just be another one of the many ways in which i'm an incurable oddball.

This has been a very good discussion on 'feet':))Glad everyone has had an opinion, for we all need that input:0)I do think it would be easier to always have a clear guide to where the 1/4" is. And, for me...always!:))You are so right about the fabric!:))Actually, I might have good intentions to buy one...only get too overwhelmed w/all the new fabric, patterns, etc. Only to return w/a new nest egg and no foot!:))One of these days...:))Well, maybe:0)Skeat
