Try fons and porter scrap quilts I have made a Jacobs ladder from the book and started one called lots a pot of flowers and in the same book their are 2 more I must make. the designs in the book range from simple to complex.The end result is so well designed.Bought the book on line used for less then 9 dollars.

I cut out the largest square or rectangle I can get from a scrap. Anything smaller then 2.5" I save for applique. And as far as strips are concerned, I don't cut them. It seems that I end up with strips, almost, accidentally anyway. I keep my scraps together by color and just put anything that is smaller then a charm altogether in a baggie. It's working so far, and I must thank the ladies on this board for helping me with their suggestions.

Here's what I do with large amounts of scraps. First, I decide on 1 or 2 orderly scrap designs and get a shoebox for the strips. My first cuts into any piece are for the blocks I have chosen and the remaing piece, if any is cut into sizes I normally use. (no, I do not throw scraps back into the scrap pile!) Cutting gets very boring for me, so I take a time-out and sew a few blocks. For me, it's cut and sew, cut and sew. Not so boring and kills a couple of birds with one stone. Works for me, try it, it might make your scraps disappear like magic!

I also use Bonnie Hunter's scrap method and have bins of 2", 2 1/2, 3, strips and squares and I find myself going to them constantly. I have made 2 Mile a minute quilts using the strips and squares and it made the task enjoyable and enabled me to use up many scraps.

I took a Scrap Therapy class at Calico Gals in Syracuse NY (home to Joan Ford) and it was very interesting. I still use that method for my scraps. I have a few of her individual scrap patterns. They are on my "to do" list :-) Barb
