2 1/2 inches. The white blocks are 6 1/2 inches with 2 1/2 x 6 1/2 strips; 4 corners are 2 1/2 squares.

I love the scrappy look, my MIL is making one this winter. Here is mine. I have posted this before but here it is for you. I paid no attention to value, just grabbed and sewed!

That may be the best way. It sure would be less confusing. I was thinking of doing an applique flower in the plain block but it might be too much. Probaby a nice quilting design would be better. I'll hand quilt it, as I do most of mine.

Your double irish chain is going to be great with all the colors. I attached a picture of the triple irish chain I made using all scraps. thanks for sharing
