Actually I never like them until I saw one in person, the pictures just do not do justice to them. Anyway my question is...all the ones I have seen are made of flannel and either minky, or denim. Can they be made with just quilting cotton, and flannel, will the ravel ok after being snipped. I have flannel for the backing and some really pretty cotton I would like to put with it and wanted to make sure it would work ok before I go through the process. Thanks for the info.

absolutely! cotton works great, even without flannel (with batting)

raggy quilts were made with cottons and flannels for years- minkie and other polyester fleeces have only entered the quilting world in the past few years they are relatively new to the market.
as long as the fabric will fray you can use it-
flannels and homespuns work well because they have a looser weave- batiks don't work so well because their weave is quite tight- regular quilting cottons fray well- sometimes an extra layer of muslin gives the (raggy edge) a little more (body)
but you will make beautiful raggy quilts with your cotton top and flannel back- just use a 1/2" seam instead of 1/4"- and clip, clip clip=
take it outside and give it a good shake-
i take them outside and shake them again really good when they come out of the washer-
and a few times from the dryer- and empty your lint trap 2 or 3 times- it will fill up fast!
