I have EQ6 and I do not believe it has this feature either. I just did a search throughout the program and could not find anything on sewing the blocks together. Sometimes I will look at the pattern blocks as pieced and then as foundation pieced to get the idea in my head how I want to piece them together.

I use EQ5 and it doesn't have sewing instructions. I was wondering if EQ6 did.
And, apparently it doesn't.
I think sewing instructions, construction directions is an important feature that is woefully lacking in the program. It's just a matter of adding the data in the printing instructions.
It takes for granted that people, like me, know how to sew everything and put everything together. Especially if we're looking at complicated blocks or borders.
The program isn't cheap. They want over $150 of our hard earned money to play around with their program. And while I do love the program and the things it does do, it's deficient in that regard.

And, apparently it doesn't.

no, there are no instructions on how to 'piece' a block
One reason I bought the program was I hoped it would tell you how much of your fabrics you need for a quilt - NOT...
it will for a block - big deal - but not a whole quilt
believe me, if you complain on the info-eq forum about any aspect of the program you will be jumped on in a New York minute - :-o
ask me how I know...
I don't have any other versions and EQ6 is my first version - and guess what - my last version - I'm still PO'd over finding out AFTER I ORDERED ON LINE FROM JOANNS and got the package in the MAIL that you only have 4 (four) installations AND you HAVE to have internet access to install it.....
I said something on the EQ forum and was promptly told in no uncertain terms, "But after all YOU KNEW that when you bought it"...
well, no I did not but believe me I will do a whooooooooooooooole bunch more research on a program before I buy one that expensive again....
by the way, I LOVE THE PROGRAM.....
but it only does part of what I want it to do, and I'm really disgusted over the 4 installation thing.... I'm not a thief and I don't like a company that automatically assumes I am when I buy their program...

1. as far as i know, none of the quilt design softwares include instructions for making the blocks.
2. EQ6 absolutely does print yardage estimates for each fabric for the whole quilt
3. i've never participated in the user forum(s) so can't express an opinion. i can tell you, though, that their tech support and customer service folks have always responded to my questions quickly, helpfully, and with respect. they've never treated me as though i was stupid ... (and i assure you a couple of my questions were about as stupid as questions can get. :lol: )
4. i don't like the mandatory online activation and max number of activations, either. however, although i could be wrong, i think if you had some sort of genuine problem/situation that made it necessary to reinstall the program beyond the standard number of activations, they'd help you do it.

Janeen, I couldn't agree with you more about the activations. I think I read (maybe here?) about somebody who put the program on an external hard drive so she could use it on any computer. That sounds like a good plan to me. I figure I paid for it, and I should be able to use it on as many computers as I want! I'm not going to give it away--if that's what they're worried about, they should design it so you have to have the disc in the drive when you use it.
There's definitely a high learning curve with this program. And I agree with KOR/DAOEL/KWRA that piecing instructions would sure be helpful!

Janine, I don't have EQ6 but I have EQ5 and that will give you yardage for the whole quilt, so I think EQ6 would too. In EQ5 you need to have it in work on quilt view, then go to print on the File menu, then click on Fabric yardage. A little box will come up and you select your fabric width and seam allowances. If you don't actually want to print it off but just want to get some idea click print preview and you will see it on the screen. EQ6 should have something similar. I only use it as a rough idea cause I find it is way too generous which I suppose is better than being too tight, but with fabric being the price it is here, I find the best bet for me is to work out my own.
Also the reason I bought EQ5 instead of 6 is for similar reasons to that which you said and the program here was $320 :shock: But I feel with only that numer of activations allowed they are not thinking of their international customers it is much harder for us to get access to customer service and the program is also less well known, so is much harder to get help with and if I needed a 5th activation because of problems it is also that much harder to find a way to actually pay them the money :lol: , so all in all I thought EQ5 was a safer bet for my circumstances.
That being said I still really love the program, I enjoy being able to trial different colours and layouts without having to spend hours colouring in bits of paper, which is what I used to do :lol:

they said it will print how much is needed for a block but not for a whole quilt

I have not used their forum, but I too have had wonderful help from their customer service reps. I even got to talk to Andrea Bishop one time :D I am disappointed in their 4 activations, but I guess a few people have spoiled it for all of the rest of us! :evil:
