I went to the Sewing Expo in Puyallup Wa yesterday.
If you get a chance to go to one of these, I would highly recommend it!
This year I signed up for a couple of classes on using my Embroidery machine to quilt my quilts...Learned alot of helpful hints!
I also got to meet Marti Mitchell and thought about telling her about PitsburgPams Dahlia...funny though, no one else really recognized her or spoke to her.
I also got to meet Nancy Zieman of Nancys' Notions and she a very nice woman and more beautiful in person.
I also got to meet Loralie of Lorilie designs...funny how she resembles her ladies!
There was waaayyy too many people there. Not alot of deals on fabric yardage or fat quarters...
I also bought a neat little gadget calle Prep-Tool that helps aligning half-square triangles and flying geese. I seem to have trouble cutting off those dog ears so this should help.
Lots of "I Wishes" like an HQ16, Flynn Frame, Accu-Cut, etc...
It was fun to meet the icons of the quilting industry now I gotta get in my sewing room and get to work!

I haven't been for a few years now, used to go every year and always had a ball. We did notice the crowds getting larger and the deals getting harder to find, but we still loved the seminars and being around all the creative people.

I hope to go again in the next couple of years.

Isn't it fun to rub elbows with the "names". I met Nancy Zieman years ago in her store in Wisconsin. Had watched her on PBS for years.
Sew Expos have been fun, but I love the Quilt Shows now.

The Atlanta Sewing and Quilting Expo is March 5, 6, and 7th. My youngest daughter and I are going on Thursday. We are excited!!

The only quilt world celebrities I have met are Jennifer Chiaverini (Elm Creek Quilt books author http://www.elmcreek.net/ ) and Pat Sloan (pattern and fabric designer http://patsloan.typepad.com/quiltershome/ ) Jennifer was at a quilt show in Lancaster PA that I attended. We chatted for a few minutes while she autographed a book for me. She seems really sweet and down to earth. Pat Sloan was a member of my guild in VA-she taught us a great class on machine applique once--she is really sweet and funny. She also gave us an awesome trunk show of some of her quilts. It is fun to "rub elbows" with the famous people of the quilt world.

Oh--I almost forgot. I have also met Judie Rothermel. She is the fabulous designer of lots of reproduction fabrics. She and her husband are at a lot of quilt shows. http://www.schoolhousequilts.com/

It was great meeting the big names...
But it was fun to talk with other ladies involved in quilting, and guilds and such and the local retatilers....
Gotta support the LQS ya know...
I still havent decided which my favorite part is...but I am am considering going on Thurs, Fri or Sunday next year...
And I really did enjoy the 1 hour seminars for 4$ each...

Sounds like you had a great time!.. Wish they'd move over a couple states and have one here.

You'll have to let us know about your new tool and how it works out. I just found out  that I've been doing my HST wrong   .

Tuesy,
How could you do a HSQ wrong?
Maybe you can, I don't know!
After years of quilting I am still trying to "perfect" the perfect "1/4" scant seam!!!!
:P

Well with me, anything is possible.

When you draw the line from corner to corner, then you're supposed to sew on either side of that line... Well, I've been sewing ON that line.. which could be why some of my things haven't been coming out just like they're supposed to. Now on some other things they come out perfectly. So there again, I don't know if they're really wrong or not.. ???
