Bless you. What a good idea. I wish you luck with your project. Good idea getting the same machines for the students. I think you should consider having a class for adults who want to learn to sew. It's a shame that sewing isn't offered at schools anymore. That's where I learned to sew and I've been sewing ever since. I am always amazed at how hard it is for the ladies who don't know how to sew. Things that are second nature are completely foreign to them. I love to see the light bulb go on when they get a new technique.

You reap what you sew and you are sewing a wonderful thing. These children will always remember what you are doing for them. Good luck.

Although I don't have the oppurtunity to teach my DGD to sew, I did get them each a machine for Christmas. On sale I purchased 2 Babyloc Anna's with the help of their 2 uncles.
Good luck on your venture, the kids will look back years from now and thank you.

Thank you for continuing a tradition that is time honored-sewing and quilting- even if you spark one child to be the next teacher of such, you have done your job in life !
I don't believe they even teach this in schools anymore ! My granddaughters are doing it through Girl Scouts and my knowledge when they come to visit !

That's great that you are going to give classes. From what I've heard, Home Ec classes (sewing and cooking) aren't taught in the schools like they were years ago. I took both from 7th to 10th grade and loved it! My Mom taught me some sewing in the 6th grade but she was not interested a lot in sewing even tho her Mom was an excellent seamstress. My grandmother lived in ND and we were in WA so I couldn't commute to take lessons! I worked with a woman who had a classroom set up in her house to teach teens and young women to sew. She was kept busy with all the requests. No matter where the children you teach interest's lie (clothing, quilt or whatever), it's a skill that will stay with them for a lifetime!
