Am I using too much spray starch???....
I am piecing my neck ties to make a crazy quilt and sometimes when I'm pressing my seams after stitching I get a white, flaky residue on my fabric immediately after I iron. Am I using too much starch??? Or, what causes this flaky residue? Thanks!

Having been addicted to using starch in quilting for many many years. The only problems I see when others use starch is not allowing the starch to saturate into the fibers. If you get flaking .. its the tell tale sign you have not let it absorb into the fibers. I have on occasion double starched and for those projects that I need stand on its own stiff , I let the starch dry completely before ironing.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. You can surely tell I don't do alot of ironing, right??? LOL I tend to get a little impatient when I work on my projects. I did let the starch absorb into the fabrics and this is working a whole lot better. Thanks again. I'm finished my squares and I'm about to start the embellishements on my crazy quilt. Wow! This will be my first project like this.....Where to start??? LOL Wish me luck!
