Cutting table question
Does anyone know what height a cutting table should be in regard to a persons height? I have one from JoAnn's but I'm just under 5 feet so it is too high for me. thinking of buying a farm house table I saw at WalMart to use. Any thoughts? Thanks. Mayme

Mine is just about waist high. Any lower and I have to bend and that can wear your back out. Any higher and my shoulder "lifts" and then i get shoulder fatigue.
if you have a small table you can experiment with, try putting bricks or sturdy boxes under it. I stacked boxes and a cutting board together to find "my measurement".

My shorter grandmother was 5'0" - 5'1". She had her kitchen counter installed at 30" instead of the normal 34". My taller grandmother was 5"11", and had her kitchen counter installed at 36". Assuming that standing and cutting food at a kitchen counter is similar to cutting fabric, the right height for you might be 29", which is normal dining room table height. Another alternative is to sit and cut fabric. That's what I do.

I am just 5 feet myself and I bought one of the long plastic tables at Sam's Club that can be set where it is best for me. It has worked really great for me. I can even lower it where I can set and cut when my RA gets to bad to stand for to long.

My cutting table is a very good height for me, and it comes to about 3 inches below my belly button. I like mine a little below elbow height so that I can lean my weight on the fabric when cutting.

I was taught the height for cutting was the same as kitchen cabinets which we stand up at. If your table is too short as mine was I increased the height by putting those height adjusters on the legs. Works great and I have a stool to sit on for meals.

I currently am using a folding 6 ft plastic table with cinder blocks under the legs to get it to a better height. Still could be a tad higher (I'm 5'9") but not enough to add a stepping stone. Might try a bit of plywood if I can find 4 suitable scraps.

From a different perspective.......I have a bum right shoulder, limited range of motion and some pain, but I use my body and stance to lend weight to my cutting arm. My table is most comfortable for me at just under 29" - I am 5'4". My pressing surface is just over 31" and works for the iron but is not as comfortable as the shorter one for cutting. For me it's all about the shoulder.
