Ok, so I now have a king size quilt on my flynn frame. This is going to be a bugger to machine quilt, but very possible. So it's got me back to the idea that I need an free standing frame with a machine carriage.

I have found a used hinterberg about an hour away. But not sure I want something that is setup permanently. Does anyone have a hinterberg? how easy are they to setup and take down, or do I really need to leave it up all the time?

I have started looking at designs and figuring out how my hubby can build me a machine carriage and frame that I can set my flynn frame in, but that also can be easily dismantled. Found some great ideas.

So, now the decision...

Anyone have input?

BTW - if hubby builds me one, I will post the design for all.

I have the hinterburg stretch frame and leave it up all the time. It really is quick and easy to put together so you could take it down as needed. 1 person can do it alone but much easier with 2 people. I think you'll be happy with the frame. I use a vintage singer on it so I have the adapter that lets you control the machine with a hand lever.

I've seen the Hinterberg frames and they are big, strong and bulky. But if you are not able to have it set up all the time, I would go with something else. I hope your hubby is able to build something to go with your Flynn frame. I didn't know they came in King size. I have a HandiQuilter2 table top frame. It would be easy to take down when not in use, but I leave it up all the time.

I have a Hinterburg three roller for hand quilting. My husband bought the kit and finished it himself. We made the pipes long enough for a queen size quilt. After two quilts, I took it down and it has been in the basement ever since. It is wonderful quality and I wish it had gotten more use. Should probably sell it.

The Flynn quilt frame allows you to purchase EMT rods from Homedepot so you can make it any size. My hubby got me 10 ft rods. I have it on top of two 6 ft craft tables. It works, but since it is so big and heavy (metal rods are heavier than pvc, but for that length they are needed), that having my machine on a carriage would work better.
