I have a small domestic machine - brother runway model. I recently got a Flynn frame. Works alright, except the throat of my machine is so small, I can't do a wide pattern at all.

So, I am beginning my search into other domestic machines with a deeper throat (can't afford mid or long arm yet). I am curious what make/model you use and how deep the throat is. As well as what price range the model was.

Brother 1500P has a 9" throat. So does the Juki 98.
I have the Brother, and plan to use it with my SuperQuilter just as soon as I have room (DS moved back home and took over my quilting room).

The best machine a person can get if funds are limited and want a 9" throat is the JUKI. It is a powerhouse and I love sewing with it. I think the best buy is at Sewing Machine Plus, on line, unless you live in Ca. Happy Quilting!

My Vikings, one has 9 in. and one has 10 in.

My Juki TL98E has a 9" throat and is a workhorse. Love that machine.

I also have a Juki and it is a great machine. Love FMQ with it. It is on a pro-flex frame and I can do king size quilts on it.

I have a Janome Horizon and it has an 11" throat. I haven't done a lot of quilting yet since I've had it but what I have done, the throat size is wonderful. It is a bit on the expensive side though

Okay, question, if you don't know the throat size - how do you measure it? I have a 1972 Elna SU that I love.

There are many used Juki's for sale in my area. These are ones that have been traded in for LA's. They are such work horses, and don't seem to wear out. :D:D:D

Measure from the needle to the right to the column of the machine. On most machines, this is about 7". Some machines are made with 9" (Juki & Brother) or 11 for the Horizon mention in another post.
