So...
I am in a dilemma.
I bought a new Duetta 4500 Brother for Machine Emb.
I have also a Brother 8500D that I was using for emb and piecing/quilting/and general sewing.
I am looking to either sell the 8500D and just get a regular sewing machine.
This would be a machine for general sewing, piecing, etc...running/ working on another machine while the emb machine is running would be ideal.
Do I keep the 8500 to use for piecing, quilting etc....or sell it/trade it for a sewing only machine.
Some say yes, some say no... get a pfaff or viking...not sure I want to spend that much...

My opinion - if you want it just for sewing/piecing you can buy a less expensive Janome. I have a Janome and a Brother. I like them both for the features they have but the Janome seems to be a real work horse. Sewing through more than two lays as we do in piecing sometimes in not a problem for it.

If it's a good machine & it's paid for, why would you part with it as long as you can do the piecing etc. that you want? do you think you could get $$ for what it's really worth? It's also a machine you're familiar with so you wouldn't need to learn a new machine? JMHO

I was a thinking...that if I could sell my 8500D for a penny or two I might be able to get a work horse of a machine for 5-800 bucks and perhaps have some cash in my pocket since it is a great machine.
I don't really see having two machine emb. all at once...
Something that would go to quilting classes easily, or retreats or sew thru a couple of layers of fabric...
Just a thinking and appreciating all the ideas, info and help

You do have great machines......I wouldn't sell any of them....unless you are really very tight with the money......
Its always great to have another machine available while one is ocuppied with some project.....and when one goes into service....
You are a very lucku lady..... :lol: enjoy both of them...

Speaking from experience, I sold a top of the line machine - got only a fraction of the price I paid for it, and bought another brand top of the line machine. I like the new one, but wish I had kept my other one, as it had features I miss- the $$ I got for it wasn't worth it. So-- my advice is keep your old one if you like it, you can never have too many good machines, right????

AND, if you have to put one in the shop you can still sew or embroider!

I am going to add my two cents worth in here too. I had a no name if it had a name don't remember sewing machine. I got my Bernina and while I love my Bernina work horse, wish I had kept the no name. It had a lot of fancy stitches that I used, that my Bernina doesn't have. So I really really regret getting rid of my old one and you may find you will too.
