Of course, I agreed. It has 7 windows and a door to the outside which also has a window. Lots of natural light. It adjoins our country kitchen. There is a large doorway leading into the country kitchen. I can watch the TV in the dining area of the kitchen while I am sewing. Once I am up in the morning and the bed is made, I head for the kitchen for breakfast and then on to my sewing room. My computer is also in my sewing room so I just live in that part of the house for the rest of the day. Easy access to the coffee pot, refrigerator and bathroom---What more could I want? Lol
After reading each and every post, I have to agree with this one. A friend built a lovely new home and right off the kitchen in the back of the house is a sunroom. Windows on all three sides w/french doors. As soon as I saw it - I said that it would be the perfect sewing room! It would be the best of both worlds - still having my own sewing room but not being isolated.

As we have two in college, we have two empty bedrooms during the school year. I have partly converted one of those bedrooms (very small) into my sewing supply area I guess you would say. I have found similar to others on the board that I do not like to be up there to sew (two-story house). Even if I am the only one home.

So what do I do? Have sewing stuff on my dining room table (use that room about twice a year) and my sewing machine is typically on the kitchen counter. I am sure our daughters would say that having mom's sewing stuff around all of the time is a given. One would think they would have gotten the 'sewing bug.' They haven't yet!! bla!

I think you have hit the nail on the head. I could have had an unused bedroom all to my sewing self, but the idea never appealed to me. I have the best of both worlds: my sewing room is right off the kitchen, has lots of windows, and my hubby sits at the computer while I sew. I can look through the room from the kitchen sink. But my sewing machine and design wall are tucked in the corner, out of sight of the dining area. I can be part of the hubbub without being in the middle of it, and without having to look at my mess from all over the house. It's perfect.

Yes I get it! I also have a sewing room now but I think I actually quilted more when I used the back half of the family room for sewing. I think it's because I wasn't as isolated.

I know exactly what you are saying. I have a sewing room but have to get the urge to go sew. I don't get that as often as I used to. When I sewed on my dining table the project was out there in plain sight and I would want to be working on it. Then again it would also be out there for people to move and re-arrange, throw things on top of and basically set out to annoy me.

I don't have a sewing room, but would love to have one where I could close the door on the mess and have everything in one place. Right now I sew on the dining room table and have stuff stuck everywhere, so when I want a particular item, I am hunting, hunting and sometimes can't find it as I put it away too good. Even with my machine out I don't sew a lot unless it is a project I am working on so don't think that would be an issue for me. I am not sure about the isolation factor, but don't think I would mind that either, as I think I could concentrate better. Who knows. Plus by being on the dining room table it always looks messy!

I have a sewing room with my longarm in it. I am considering moving my sewing out of the room and into the dining room. I live alone and often have friends over to quilt so, if I move my sewing space I can rearrange my pile of fabric and batting, move my longarm so I have more room to maneuver and I believe not feel so cramped in. I live in a double wide mobile home so I have more space then I need. Before I moved here I had a 24 x 24 pole barn space and had to really downsize.

When I scrapbooked all the time, I did it on the dinning room table. It was there, saw it all the time therefore I would sit down and work on a layout nearly everyday. Then moved it to a bedroom, my space, loved it but didn't scrapbook nearly as much. It wasn't where I could see it. Then decided I wanted to learn to quilt (still a beginner) and I enjoy having a place that is all mine. Our children are grown and my husband is gone a lot, no one to bother me while I sew and then have to Unsew. Quilting is stressful when trying to learn how to make corners meet. But loving it!!! It has to get easier as time goes by.

I sew in my kitchen family room. If I was in a room all by myself I would feel lonely and isolated, even though I am home alone during the day and only really sew when my family is gone. Love to be in the middle of the house though. Would like more room to display my fabric though. Don't like hunting around for it in tubs in the laundry room.

I completely understand both. Stuck away in the sewing room keeps you away from the rest of the activity, but I love my sewing room!

I had not sewing room for years, I did not like having to pick up everything then drag it all out when I started back, sometimes it kept me from sewing.. I have a computer in the basement with a tv and my hubby stays down there alot. I am always afraid for my grandkids and greatgrandkids to be around all of my sharp objects. But hey if it works for you go for it. You have to be comfortable in able to get you sewing groove on....
