My husband works abroad and whilst he's away the dining room is all mine . Nothing goes away and my projects can be worked on long into the night if i want. He's due home on leave in 3 weeks and excited as I am that he's coming a little bit of me groans as I have to tidy everything away.

When we moved here I had a separate room downstairs (basement all finished) for my sewing. I thought it would be great and I moved all my stuff down there. I even put a design wall up. I felt isolated and lonely. I eventually moved my sewing table upstairs in our gurest bedroom where I could be with others. I sew alot move now that I'm up and I have a window to look out and a TV in the extra room. If we have people over spending the night I put my things up; I'm not usually sewing if I have overnight guests. I run my completed blocks downstairs and put them on the design wall. As they say, "be careful what you wish for, you might get it". I got my sewing room and my sister was surprised to see that I don't use it.

I have a sewing studio that's right by our bedroom & so it isn't isolated. I have a TV & the whole 9 in there. But I still kinda like sewing on my kitchen table (tho it's a pain to have to drag my ironing board & everything out there). I do all my hand work laying in bed. Sometimes I sew on our screened in porch (mostly hand work). I like sewing in the living room (I plan to go out there & cut some fabric on my coffee table later today as a matter of fact). Plus *Mommy* not being secreted away in her sewing room makes my dog happy... LOL!

I took my 2 car garage and made half of it into my sewing room. I love it. I can see who coming or going out in the yard good light and can walk away and leave my mess and no one will bother it. My call it my play room no kids alowed..lol but my cats do come in and set and watch me sew. I never knew how much good junk I had for sewing,untill I started getting all out from underbeds and closets. Now wish I turn all the garage into my play room... But who know ,just might do that latter on.

I have 2 rooms I could use as a sewing room, but I have divided my large living room in half, and have made a sewing area out of the back half. When I tried to sew in a room I felt closed off from everyone. I have a TV and phone in the vacant room but still I like it out here in the LR. I live alone so that should not make a difference but it does.

Sewing room vs dining room table. I have a sewing/TV/Computer room. I can close the door if we have visitors. However, I concur that it still isolates me from the rest of the family. While in my sewing room, I am not very productive. I just set on my loveseat watching TV and think about the fact that I should be sewing. I, too, used to sew on my dining room table. This is long ago when I made my own clothes. I'm not sure my husband would appreciate my "noise" at the dining room table as these two rooms share the same space. What shall I do? I hope I find out soon because I sure have a lot of UFO's and new projects to get done.

I know what you mean my sewing machine is in the computer room in front of the window but I seem to accomplish more out here by my hubby don't know why if it's just being by DH altho sometimes I can work in the computer/sewing room. It's funny when DH was working I got more done than I do with him home. Guess we all have similar ideas. Happy sewing everyone. Sue

OMG YES!!! I have a wonderful sewing room in the lower level of my home where I keep everything for sewing and embroidering. But I love sewing in my dining room. It is very bright in there, the TV is nearby, I can see outside and I am just so much more comfortable there. So I know how you feel. Recently bought three vintage machines in cabinets and they are all in my dining room and it is so much fun jumping from one to the other with different projects. Don't have to change threads and bobbins and all that stuff so can keep many things going at once.

I could have an unused bedroom for sewing, but it's downstairs, with no natural light and feels isolated, so I have made myself a sewing space in about 1/3 of our family room. It has great natural light and is near to the kitchen. This is also our TV room, and my husband's 'office' is in one corner. I had to gradually add pieces of furniture to it, as he is very tidy and is concerned about my 'mess' (I admit I'm a messy quilter!). I do tidy and vacuum after a project is finished, but he has accepted that my cutting table will be a disaster when I'm in the middle of something. We are both retired now, and enjoy just being in the same space, especially in the evening.

Sometimes, I think we're like two toddlers who don't play together, but like to play side by side!

I am very lucky that I do have a sewing room and mine is in the middle of the house so the kids, the dog and my DH are always passing through my sewing room to get to the office to go upstairs and there is a door that leads to the kitchen and another archway that leads to a sitting room where the kids have toys and a computer. I have the best of both worlds!
