I started my first quilt in 1972 but finished it in 1986. I got sooo bored cutting all the pieces with a cardboard template and scissors, then sewing along the pencil lines. I set it aside for years at a time. Then I hand quilted it - that took a couple of years. It is 100% polyester! Anyway, no photo but I've enjoyed seeing what others have done.

I finished my first quilt on my 59th birthday on October 12, 2010. It took a year to complete.

I did not sew before attempting this quilt. I read some books... The Complete Idiots Guide to Quiltling and Quilting for Dummies... got out my graph paper and designed this hand-quilted bedspread.

The first quilt I ever made was a tie quilt made of sheets and is long gone. This is the pieced/first machine quilted one I ever did....

Having to think about the last quilt I made I realized I haven't finished anything in awhile.

The last quilt I made was a painted wallhanging...

Here is mine, blocks made on my embroidery machine. I also have a ufo baby quilt top that I did in an intro to quilting class last year, but seein as it’s not finished I think this one counts as being my first.
Your quilt is lovely. It reminds me of a toy I had as a tween. I think it was called “Spirograph”. I loved playing with it.

I have posted this before, and after seeing all of your “first quilts”, I can really see all of my “mistakes” that were made in ignorance. The first error was the colors.....but my youngest DD loves it. She and her friends call it”the mom blanket”. Lol. I used my first quilt book, “Irish quilts”, by Eleanor Burns. Still one of my favorites to make (I have made seven of them.

My technical first quilt was a baby blanket for my the first baby of any of my high school friends. The purple was a bridesmaid dress I wore in her wedding! It was not great.... I stitched in the ditch, badly. I even messed up the order of the blocks in one spot (put one strip on upside down), and didn’t notice until I had basted it all together and decided it was good enough. My mom helped me a lot with this one, which is why I don’t count it.

The next one I did was a lap quilt for my grandfather, which I did without assistance and call my first quilt.

The first one I felt proud of was my 3rd quilt, and even then I made So many mistakes...

my first quilt was a sampler king size, and I drew up the different blocks. I quilted it all by hand too. That was way back, the winter I lived with my parents while my husband was in Basic Training, and our son was an infant. 1982-1983

I eventually replaced it, and at the time I didn't think it was anything special, though as of today, it's the only one I've done that was hand quilted. Have not looked through old photos to see if I have a picture, but don't think so. That was way before digital photography. I made 2-3 more in the earlier years, and did basic quilting by machine. I never really considered them "real" quilts. then did not do any for many, many years.

One neat note, after my Mom passed in 2014, my sibs found an old candy box with my name on it, and inside were all the templates I made for that first quilt.

Once I started quilting seriously, this was the first one I did. It was a mystery, and a good way to get started. My first experience with rotary cutting. This was made in 2013.

The split oak leaf was one of my earliest quilts. My best friend is standing with it to show my 3rd place win at a local guild show. I was really surprised. There is 20+ years between the two quilts.

My last quilt is the Roses on the Breeze. It was posted last week and shared again here. My favorite quilt so far
