I also do as someone else mentioned here. When my Ott light on my sewing cabinet is on, I know that the iron could be on too (I try to remember to turn it off as I leave the room). I just turn them both off on a power cord button when I'm done for the day.

I needed my replacement iron in a hurry, so bought a B&D at Walmart for $24. The auto off is a bit too quick, but they all had one. I like a little weight, and after hefting all the irons for half an hour and getting lots of strange looks I just grabbed one and took it home. So far it is working just fine! DH's shirts look good, and it stays on long enough to press seams. I miss my Norelco easy steam! It was the best ever!
