Should you tell someone if you see a mistake?

It looks like a consensus shaping up. If they ask for a critique, be honest. If it's in the pieced/pre-quilted stage and a block is turned the wrong way . . .kindly say something. If it's a stitch or point out of place, no one is perfect, leave it alone.
Fair enough?

The amount of quilting is determined by the batting choice-- you might ( think) a quilt is under quilted that might have batting which allows 10" between quilting lines, or a fleece/ flannel middle layer that allows pretty much as little as you want. Some batting needs to be quilted every 2" - 4", then needs heavier/ denser quilting. Unless I know what batting they are using, I would not ( assume) they haven't done enough. If you see one you ( think) might need more you could ask what batting they used First, before giving an unsolicited comment.

I agree completely. Please tell me I have a block turned but you don't need to point out those little things I'm working on learning to do.

I Have a Personal Story
I can't usually find the mistakes that are made even when they are mentioned in the posting, and I quilted one of my first, used it, hung it in a small show and discovered a big mistake only when I took a picture of it. I had "known" something was wrong with one of the corners when I put it together but could not actually "see" it. Boy do I wish someone had looked at it for me. Now I consider it the little difference that makes it special.
I saw a quilt top here with a pretty big mistake and wondered if I should private message the person before it gets layered and quilted.
What do you all think? If I am polite in pointing it out privately?
Soon?
Thanks for your advice.

I would tell only if the person could correct the mistake. I would want to know if it were my quilt top.
I do not consider cut off points or other problems with quilting techniques mistakes.
I would want to know any tricks to make my piecing more accurate for future quilts and would ask for suggestions. That is how I learn and improve over time. I would point out piecing or other problems only if the quilter asked.

I would say in that context...before it's layered and quilted you should certainly pm the person. I think it can be asked in a polite way....I would want to know. After the quilt is made I would say don't mention it.
