I have heard that you can drop the feed dogs down on a machine but I haven't a clue how to get them to do that. I have 4 machines at my house and wouldn't have a clue how. If you can help that would be great.

2 machines are Brothers and the other 2 are old singers-one is a 99K and the other is a 128 and these may or may not work that way. I don't know.

Thanks In Advance,
Angie

not all machines can drop the feed dogs. some have plates to cover them. some have neither. you might check the manuals for the machines to see.

Angie on the brother machines there should a "flip" switch on the back of the machine that drops them. I am not sure about the singers...you might ask Billy aka lostn51 on here. He is the resident go-to person on here with machine questions.

look in your manual for "darning" they usually tell you how to drop/cover the feed dogs for this type of sewing. Good luck. If you don't have the manual try looking up your machine online some times they have the manual on line.

I have two Brothers. On the little one you can't drop the feed dogs. You use a darning plate which came with the machine. One the big one there is a huge knob with pictures of the feed dog positions around it. I'm betting yours doesn't have that style, because you couldn't miss it!

I use a Brother machine and the switch on the back of the arm lifts/lowers mine.

I don't think you can drop the feed dogs on the 128. You can lighten the pressure on the presser foot, but I see no mention of dropping the feeds in the book, or no obvious way looking at the machine.
