Default New Sewing Machine

Hello all,

If you had $300-$500 to spend on a sewing machine what would you get and why? I am looking for a new machine. I have had mine for 3yrs and it was the $89.00 Singer from Walmart. It has been a good machine but just ready to update. My birthday is in a couple of weeks and I will be turning 40 so I would like to treat my self to a new machine. Thanks!

My suggestion would be to visit your local sewing machine dealership and see what they have in trade-ins....they are kinda like cars, with the new depresating as soon as they hit the door....My recommendation has always been about after purchase service.....you will need it sooner or latter, maybe not every year but you will need it...does your local dealer service all or only some.....are they friendly and helpful....(mine is not so I have to travel 100 miles for service) believe me this will be so important when your "Baby" is sick....

I would buy what I did buy - a Pfaff Ambition. Dealers are 2 hours and 1.5 hours away but that didn't stop me! Had it for a year now - no service needed and I keep it clean.

Check out the machines and prices here. They are an authorized Brother Dealer and deliver in a few days and sell a variety of brands. www.allbrands.com. I have purchased all three of my machines from them and am more than pleased with each one.

I have the Pfaff Ambition 1.0 and love it. However, it is more than the $500 you want to spend. Pfaff has a new machine called Pfaff ambition essential (I think) that is on special now for $599. I don't think you can go wrong with a Pfaff. My older machine is also a Pfaff and is 20 years old, just repaired and it runs like a new machine.

I just bpught a Janome 1050 and love it for lightweight, easy machine. Has great features for quilting. The price ranged from $500 at a local dealer to $299 on Amazon. I bought from a dealer for $350 with a three year warranty but I had to show him the Amazon machine and talk him into it.

If I were buying, I would check out the Janome and Juki brands. I don't have either but I've heard a lot of good things about both.
