Is the bobbin area all free of lint? Is the machine threaded correctly? Try a new needle too.

Make sure the needle hasn't slightly become loose and fallen down a wee bit...ask me how I know...last week I had to change the needle on my serger and I did not insert the needle all the way up ..it was tight..wouldn't sew..this has happened on reg sewing machine too...push it up as high as it will go...

Will add to that to make sure the needle is facing the right direction, and make sure it's threaded in the right direction... :)

good luck!

Does it think you are trying to wind a bobbin?

I have an early 1990s Singer and that's happened to me.
