How big do any of you make a quilt for a twin size bed. I looked it up (63x87), cut the blocks and put them out on my queen size bed to arrange them and it just looks to big?

the twin mattress, itself, is approx 39x75. the size you are making allows about a 1 foot drop on the 3 sides. it's not too big at all.

you didn't figure in the seam allowances. You lose lots of inches across the laid out blocks. Ask me how I know? doing what you did-- 8^) oh, yeah, and the quilting will shrink it a bit too.

I usually go by what the person getting the quilt wants. My DH (when he was just my boyfriend/fiancee) had a twin bed, but he's also 6'4" and wanted something longer and wider for him.

You can look at a dozen quilt patterns for a twin and NONE of them will be the same size!! Sizes vary because of the actual size of the block and the width of the border(s). I made a quilt top for my best friend but when she put it on her queen size bed, she actually wanted a bedspread. So I added two more rows to make sure she was happy. I think it finally was closer to a size of a king. I would suggest piecing your blocks together because you can always change the widths of your border(s). GOOD LUCK !!

i like mine to hang over the edge of the mattress enough to keep winter chills out. so the larger, the better.
