Default Single Irish Chain opinions needed

Who better to turn to than my QB friends. Am planning a single irish chain in my head. Have seen some real beauties here in the past. Thinking of going into my stash and using warm medium blues, corals, russets, etc. for the chains. Has anyone used just what they had for the backgrounds, instead of making it all from the same fabric? Where you happy with it? I know there are no members of the Quilt Police out there, but I could use some honest opinions. Thanks and hope you all are enjoying your Sunday.

Here's a picture of a double Irish chain made with scrappy background - I think it looks great (it is not my quilt, I wish it were). http://www.crazycreekquilts.com/free...-patterns.html

I would think it would work if you kept them all the same value or shade...otherwise you may lose the chain effect. Have you watched Jennys video from Missouri Star Quilt Company ???? good instructions

Scrappy Irish Chains can be beautiful!
As DeborahLees mentions you would want to keep the background to the same values, likewise the chains.

Also, a good contrast between the background and chains ... otherwise it all can become mush!

Many do 9Ps alternating with plain blocks for a Single Irish Chain.
Another one that really works well as a scrappy is the Double 4P for a SIC/

Good Luck!

Thanks so much for your input everyone. I'm thinking if I do go with a solid main background, may use Connecting Threads Mirage, or Stonehedge Line. Right now it's just a day dream maybe for the long winter months. Have too much gift sewing between now and then to even consider something for our bed.
