What is the normal size of a table runner? Length and width.

I think it depends entirely on the size of the table. But this site has some information on "average size" (way too big in my opinion) and having the runner fall off the sides of the table (which I seldom have seen).

I think it depends on where you are going to put it on. The last one I made was 20" x 40". :-)

Actually every runner I see on the site looks way too small to me. The runners I use fall off the sides of the table and hang down about 8-12 inches on each side. Everyone I see in a store (eg Pier one) is exactly the same-large enough to hang down over the sides of the table.
