My bff wants a bow tucks bag, but she wants it bigger, so she can use it for work.

The pattern calls for the top piece 8.5 x 19 and the bottom piece 6 x 19. The end result is the front and back pieces being 14 x 19. I figured that I can extend the width from 19 to 21 so I can still maximize the fabric, but what would I do for the other part??

I hope the question is clear. It's confused me to try to figure out and trying to explain it has further confused me. lol. The math is NOT my strong point.

If you plan to add two inches to the width, way don't you just do the same with the height. So instead of 8.5 X 19 you would make it 10.5 X 21. See what I mean?

Well, I can do that, but the height is in two different pieces, making one piece. So I don't know how much to add to the top piece (which is originally 8.5) and also the bottom piece (originally 6) including a half inch extra (I think) for seams. I know it must be easy, but I just can't get it....... Do I just add one inch to each piece? Is it that simple? lol

I would add an inch to each piece. That way the seam between the two pieces will be in about the same place as it was. Hope I didn't confuse you more!

That is what I would do. That way it will be the same addition on both parts if that makes sense.

21 is approximately 10% larger than 19. 19x1.1=20.9
Multiply by 1.1

It was late when I was looking at this last night and I wasn't very clear. I guess I should have said instead of 8.5 X 19 make it 9.5 X 21 and instead of 6 X 19 make it 7 X 21. You would end up with it being 16 X 21 instead of 14 X 19. And yes, the .5 is the seam allowances.
