    Default Handquilting Thread

I'm getting ready to hand quilt this top. What color thread should I use? I've never quilted a top before, let alone hand quilted them.

I would use something to match the yellow or the aqua. If you don't want the quilting to show, I would use black. Your quilt is beautiful, by the way. It would look good with the pink also.

Don't know but it is a gorgeous top by the way, maybe aqua or a gray would kind of blend

depends on how much you want the thread to show- if you want the stitching to show with out the thread detracting you could use a 'smoke invisible'
or a medium gray- or a veriegated thread would also be a nice choice- depending on what you could find...lots of choices- sky's the limit

why not quilt it in different colors depending on the background.
And get Americana cotton at JoAnns. Best and cheapest thread on the market.

Black-on-black may be hard for you to see as you quilt. I would use a thread that blends in, but doesn't disappear. Grey, if you don't want it to show much, or one of the other colors in the quilt if you want your pretty stitching to show!

Thanks, Holice, for the advice on quilting thread. I'm just starting to take an interest in hand quilting, and had no idea what kind to use. Linda in MO

I use only YLI thread glazed cotton hand-quilting thread - it is cheap -$4 for 400 yds - $8 for 1000 yds....I do have to order it online - favorite place is http://www.roserushbrooke.com/yli-quilting-1000.html She is quick to mail out and wonderful to work w/. The shipping is also reasonable. I've gotten stuff from her in 3-4 day(FLA to OH)

I would probably use the grey - which is a darker grey, not a silvery grey.

Another thread - also from YLI is a varigated thread that has gray, blue and dark pink in it...that has to get thru the actual YLI website. It is called Sticks and Stones.

    http://www.ylicorp.com/product.aspx?...0-3911b032b4f4

It might be worth a phone call to YLI to make sure they have the product in stock. The first time I ordered from them, I got my thread in 6 days(did include a weekend) This last time, I had to wait almost 3 -4 weeks because the stock was low/out.

ETA: YLI site has a list of local vendors, there just aren't any in my neck of the woods...
