I was thinking this weekend(always a dangerous past time... ) and I came up with two variations of a quilt for my oldest son. He's 14 and a chess nut and do you think it would be better to have a lap quilt with a Large 8" block chess board and really detailed embroidered chess peices or a larger bed sized quilt with several 16" board blocks with different games going on? Or do both? Somehow the Irish Chain thread got me going down this path......

What about a chess set on one side and other game blocks on the reverse?

I like your second idea. It sounds like a lot of work but would be awesome for him.
