Default oh my goodness - gotta make a quilt quick for a wedding!

Friday night after work was visiting Mom and Dad. She said we should really start making a rag quilt just to have in case someone got married. Did I take the hint she was throwing out at me? NOOOOO Last night was talking to my sister and she let the cat out of the bag - my youngest nephew is getting married next month and they want to have a cookout at Mom and Dad's a couple of days after the wedding. She said to play dumb cuz my nephew and his girlfriend ( who i absolutely love to pieces) want to tell people in person. So today after breakfast at Mom's i think we may be fabric browsing to see what we can find. We were thinking a rag quilt cuz they are so easy to make, we can get it done in a weekend with both of us sewing (lucky we have access to where our newest guild meets so we have plenty of room to spread out and work - lol), and it would be so nice and warm this winter. they are going to be living in her grandmother's house so you know how cold older homes can be in the winter. She is a huge Michael Jackson fan - so naturally her favorite colors are black white and red. We were thinking a black and white rag quilt with just a little bit of red hopfully in the white to avoid the dreaded running of the colors. Wish us luck!

since she is huge MJ fan, why not find some musical note fabric ( JoAnns! ) and some Peter Pan fabric ( Neverland )( again JoAnns! ) to help tie in the MJ theme....just don't over do it!! Maybe a Tinkerbell fussy cut and aplicaqued (sp? ) onto the label, with musical notes in the background of the quilt label........

thanks for the idea. i guess i should clarify it will be my sister and me making the quilt. mom loves to sew but dad's health prevents her from doing anything. she gives him 110% of her attention. but she will definitely be giving her input and probably stopping out to see our progress once we get going on it.

A true and funny [somewhat] story. Some quilters I know got frustrated. They had made so many wedding quilts only to later have couples divorce. So they decided to make picnic quilts for the wedding gift and make a bed quilt at the 5th anniversary.

No one says a quilt has to always be bed sized. I make nap quilts. that way they can maybe remember me when the snuggle down and watch TV or read a book or whatever.

Rag quilts are nice. another idea for a fast one would be the 10 minute block and then put flannel on the back to make it warm and cuddly or even warm wishes. I love these two patterns.

update on the rag quilt! figured out July is not the time to try to find cute flannel - too hot everyone thinks i guess! so we are waiting til christmas and will give them one for christmas but making them something small for the wedding. my sister is cross stitching a silouette and I am making a red black and white twister tablerunner for them. OF course he still hasn't told me he is getting married lol! Don't know if he is afraid i would say he is too young or she is too young (which I think they are!) but we don't choose who to fall in love with and when to fall in love either. His oldest brother waited to get married and is now going through a divorce while his older brother married at 22 but his wife was only 18 and they are just as happy as can be. so who knows right? All I want is for them to be happy!

The only elaborate wedding quilts I have made and given were for only female family members. I've seen too many of the guys family treasures go by the wayside with the inlaw female after a divorce. The guy family members gets a sport or special interest quilt for themselves and their wives get a quilt throw. Their kids get as many quilts as they want!
